Eidos has confirmed the most criticised aspect of Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be fixed for Wii U...

Despite almost universal critical acclaim, even die hard Deus Ex fans weren't overly happy about the lacklustre approach the development team took with the boss battles in Human Revolution.

In a game the prided itself on letting players choose how they approach almost every situation, and a game that even featured an achievement for completing the game without killing as much as a fly, it was odd that each boss fight simply required gratuitous amounts of ordinance, always ending in death.

You had no choice in this matter, and head-to-head combat was all you could hope for. Well, Eidos has taken steps to address this shortcoming with the upcoming Wii U Director's Cut version, and the bosses have been reworked.

Talking to Joystiq, Emile Pedneault, game designer for Deus Ex: Human Revolution said "We took them and completely rebuilt them. We couldn't change [the boss' character] model and the way they need to die because of the story telling, but we changed the level layout. We tweaked their AI and we've added tons of ways to deal with them.

"You can deal with a boss fight in a stealth way, you can deal with a boss fight in a hacking way. We even have for each boss fight a way to kill them without firing a single bullet.”

Although it's a shame players still have to ultimately kill the bosses, having a choice of how to approach each fight is a huge improvement. Previously, you were pretty much penalised if you played as a stealthy, non-lethal character, and if you arrived at a boss fight without serious firepower, your life was made very difficult indeed. Now, players of all styles will be able to approach each confrontation as they like, and won't be forced to carry around lethal weapons for the odd boss fight.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut will be released on the Wii U and will include Wii U-specific controls, improved visuals and reworked AI, as well as DLC chapter, The Missing Link. It's not currently slated to be released on any other platform, but the idea hasn't been ruled out.
