We might just have the success of The Muppets to thank for this. After all, before the successful return of Jim Henson’s finest pieces of felt, the idea of making a big screen movie with puppets was a long shot at best. Hundreds of millions of dollars in the bank later, Disney has given the green light to a Muppets sequel, and also, Fraggle Rock’s path to the big screen has cleared.
The idea of doing a Fraggle Rock movie isn’t a new one, but it has been bouncing around Hollywood for a while. However, with The Jim Henson Company firmly on board, New Regency has got hold of the rights, and is pressing ahead with a film.
As such, it’s now hired a pair of writers for the project, namely Jim Byrkit and Alex Manugian. The former was one of the writers behind the quite brilliant Rango, which immediately gives us confidence here. Manugian, meanwhile, voiced a role in the film. Thus, we like him too.
It’s going to be a while yet before Fraggle Rock reaches fruition, but fear not, we shall keep you posted…
