BioShock Infinite

One of 2012’s biggest games, BioShock Infinite, has slipped into next year…

They say good things come to those who wait, and hopefully this will be the case with BioShock Infinite, as 2K Games has announced that the much anticipated title from Irrational Games has been delayed until February 26, 2013.

The delay, according to Irrational's Creative Director, Ken Levine, is to enable the team to produce and ever better game, and the extra time will be utilised to give gamers an even better experience.

"When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing. Since then, we've uncovered opportunities to make Infinite into something even more extraordinary. Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need to deliver the best Infinite possible, we've decided to move the game's release to February."

Even though the game may well turn out to be even better, you have to wonder about the risk 2K is taking with the delay. Missing out on the holiday season market is a gamble, as this is traditionally when sales are the highest. So close after Christmas and the New Year can be hit or miss for some games.

That said, BioShock is hardly a series that has to struggle to gain interest, so the delay may not hurt it too much. The question you have to ask, though, is if the delay really is about fine tuning the game? Or, is there another, sales-based issue, or even a clash avoidance with a certain Rockstar release? Time will tell.
