Michael Rooker will reunite with director James Gunn on Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy...

Given his relationship with director James Gunn, the casting of Michael Rooker in Guardians oOf The Galaxy should come as little surprise. That said, anyone familiar with Rooker's body of work will appreciate this piece of casting is hardly one that you could attribute to any kind of favours. The world needs more Michael Rookers.

Rooker has been cast as Yondu, a founding member of the Guardians of the Zatoan tribe. Yondu is a skilled hunter with mystic qualities allowing him to build empathetic relationships with a variety of lifeforms.

Rooker joins a cast that includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora and Dave Bautista as Drax. Presumably the roles left to fill now include Rocket Raccoon, Groot the anthropomorphic tree and The Controller, who is heavily rumoured to be the villain.

Fast & Furious 7 confirmed for summer 2014

Fast & Furious

It's definite: Fast & Furious 7 is being scheduled for next year, in a July 2014 release slot.

In the scheme of things, Universal faced a choice. It could carry on with the Fast & Furious franchise being in the hands of the director who's given the studio four consecutive hits with it (assuming this summer's Fast & Furious 6 hits big, which it will). Or it could have the seventh film turned around in just over a year, but it'd have to sacrifice its director to do so.

You already know the answer. Justin Lin walked away from directing Fast & Furious 7 a week or two back, and to be fair to Universal, it's recruited an interesting replacement in James Wan. But Wan has a massive job on his hands, as it's been revealed that the film will indeed be needed next summer. To be exact, Fast & Furious 7 is due in cinemas on July 11th 2014, it's now been confirmed.

Vin Diesel will lead the returning cast, and rumours persist that Jason Statham will be signing up for this one. When we know more, we'll let you know. And then there's still the small matter of Fast & Furious 6, which is due out next month...

47 Ronin finally gets confirmed release date

Keanu Reeves stars in 47 Ronin, which we'll finally get to see this December...

A film that's been delayed and delayed several times, 47 Ronin, which filmed way back in 2011, will finally be making it to cinemas this year.

The movie stars Keanu Reeves and has been directed by Carl Rinsch. It's the story of a real group of samurai in Japan in the 18th century, who are looking to get revenge on the man who killed their master.

What's particularly notable about 47 Ronin is just how expensive it is, given the nature of the project and the relative experience of its director. Universal has thus-far spent in the region of $170m just to make the film, and it had originally planned to have the movie in cinemas back in November 2012. That, clearly, didn't happen, and Universal initially delayed it until February 2013.

It was last year that Universal reportedly further delayed the movie until Christmas Day 2013 in the US, and nothing really has been heard of it since. It wasn't even clear if that new release date would stick.

Well it seems that it will. Rentrak in the UK sent out a confirmation over Twitter yesterday that the release date for the film in Britain had been confirmed as December 26th 2013 (which, in turn, suggests that Christmas Day 2013 is still holding in the States(. And it seems as though it's now officially full steam ahead for the movie.

We're intrigued to see 47 Ronin. The traditional suspicion is that delayed films, that have had reshoot work, are in deep trouble. That may well be the case with 47 Ronin, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the final film will be a bad one. It may just turn out quite the contrary. We'll find out in December...

With trailers to follow, we've got the first posters for R.I.P.D. and 300: Rise Of An Empire...

The first posters for a pair of this summer's thus-far lower profile blockbusters have arrived, and we've gathered them together for you here. The two films in question?

Well, the first is R.I.P.D., starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. It's based on the Dark Horse short series of the same name, and it's heading to cinemas in July. The month after, meanwhile, we get the long-mooted 300 prequel, 300: Rise Of An Empire. This one's based on Frank Miller's Xerxes graphic novel, and we've got the first poster for Noam Murro's film too.

We're expecting debut trailers for these two shortly, but for the time being, here are the respective posters for you to peep at.

Fantastic Four reboot shoot date and location revealed

Josh Trank

Josh Trank starts shooting the new Fantastic Four movie in just a couple of months...

The film might not be due in cinemas until March 2015, but 20th Century Fox is getting down to work quickly on its planned reboot of the Fantastic Four cinematic franchise. The movie is being directed by Chronicle's Josh Trank, and it seem as though he's nearly ready to unpack his cameras.

Production Weekly has revealed that production is going to start on the new Fantastic Four on June 17th, with the shoot, at least in part, taking place in Vancouver. That means that all concerned have three months to lock down their cast, which we'd imagine they'll want to announce in one go. Whether that actually happens remains to be seen.

Expecting casting announcements in the next few weeks, and we'll have more on Fantastic Four as we hear it...

Doctor Who series 7: Hide spoiler-free review

ReviewSimon Brew17 Apr 2013 - 07:30

Hide takes Doctor Who series 7 to 1970s Britain, and a creepy old house. Here's our spoiler-free review...

We're back on Earth in the latest Doctor Who, this time heading to the 70s, without any British comics or particularly catchy singles to establish the era this time around. But then tonally, Hide is a much quieter story than we've had this series, and it's a marked contrast with writer Neil Cross' other adventure, The Rings Of Akhaten

If we've got our chronology right, Cross delivered the draft of Hide first, and it's a good episode, this. At heart, it's a haunted house story, something Doctor Who has good form on. The Doctor and Clara arrive at said house, to find its inhabitants - played by Dougray Scott and Jessica Raine - staging their own, pre-Living TV interpretation of Most Haunted

It all takes a little while to get warmed up (the Doctor has to have a little moment with the technology first), and there's a cheeky sense of Scooby Doo about it at times, as the Doctor and Clara investigate the mysterious haunting in the mysterious house. But in the middle part of the episode in particular, the small cast and the tight surroundings serve Hide really, really well. And while the last scene or two may well not be to everyone's liking, Cross has shaped a complete, interesting story here, that forms the basis of a very good episode of Doctor Who. He weaves in a funny and knowing speech about the evolution of the companion role too.

Logistically, the story works very much in the episode's favour, as the location shoot of a creaky old house allows director Jamie Payne to explore corridors, place sound effects, throw in some smoke, and crank up the atmosphere. He seems to be having particular fun with his game of 'It's behind you', and to his credit, there's quite a creepy atmosphere to Hide at times. It's aided too by the slightly slower pace to the episode this time around. The breakneck style of The Bells Of Saint John wouldn't sit well here, and Payne and Cross' restraint is beneficial.

The other element to this particular story though is Clara, and things are - without giving anything away - getting a lot more interesting with regard to her character. We're way past introductions now, and the mystery surrounding her really deepens this time. You don't need us to tell you how well Jenna-Louise Coleman has settled into the role, and it's with Hide that interesting things begin to develop further. That's all we can really say without breaking into spoiler territory.

Hide is, perhaps, a lower key, more muted episode of Doctor Who than we've seen of late. It's also one that we really enjoyed. There are one or two elements to it that we weren't fully won over by, which we'll come to in the spoiler-filled review after the episode has aired. But Hide is, by turns, funny, spooky, atmospheric and intriguing. And it even opens by namechecking an 80s classic. Can't be bad.

First teaser trailer for Ron D. Moore's Helix

TrailerLouisa Mellor17 Apr 2013 - 07:45

A minimalist teaser trailer has arrived for forthcoming sci-fi series, Helix, from Battlestar Galactica's Ron D. Moore...

"The truth will spread"

Helix is just one of Syfy's new slate of genre projects, but seeing as it's the one by Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ron D. Moore, and the first of the new lot to boast a teaser trailer, it's currently our favourite.

Helix takes as its TheThing-like setting an Arctic disease control research facility where a secret team of scientists discover something nasty that could, in the words of the teaser, change the world. Its first season has thirteen episodes, and so keen was Syfy on the project, Moore's show went straight to series without passing go, collecting £200, or indeed, making a pilot. Fingers crossed it's a gamble that pays off richly.

We'll bring you news on air dates and more as soon as it arrives.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon live action short

TrailerAaron Birch17 Apr 2013 - 08:41

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is heading our way in May, and here's a short film based on the game...

Far Cry 3:Blood Dragon is one of the most outlandish expansions we've seen for a while, totally altering the style and setting of its original release, but this 80's sci-fi action extravaganza is looking great, especially for those weaned on a staple diet of 80s action cartoons.

As Sergeant Rex Power Colt (voiced my Michael Biehn), players are thrown into a mission to save the world from an army of rogue cyborgs. In typical Far Cry fashion, this involves infiltrating a remote island in order to locate and silence the enemy threat.

The expansion promises around eight hours of content, with a large, open world to cause havoc in, complete with sci-fi weapons, vehicles and all of the gameplay found in Far Cry 3.

The totally over the top 80's violence takes inspiration from all sorts of cartoons and movies of the period, and the below live action short is about as cheesy (and cool) as it gets. Anyone else remember Captain Power?

In case you missed it, you'll also find the official game trailer below, which mixes in 80s cartoon-style footage, toy commercials and gamelay. Nice.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will be downloadable on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on May 1.

Bethesda teases new project

A new project is under way at Bethesda, but it may not be an existing franchise...

It was revealed recently that the development team behind Skyrim is no longer working on the Elder Scrolls title, and has now moved onto a new project. No details were given about said project, but now a short teaser video has been released by Bethesda Softworks.

The video is very brief, and shows barbed wire, a record by The Moonbeam Trio and Johann Sebastian Bach music, all with a rotating, strobe effect.

Because of the period of the music seen in the film, many initially postulated that the teaser was for the next Fallout game. However, this was then nipped in the bud, as Bethesda's Pete Hines tweeted in response to the guess“You talking about the Vine thing? Guess again :-).”

So, if it's not Fallout, what is it? Let the rumour and speculation commence.

Bates Motel episode 5 review: Ocean View

ReviewMichael Noble17 Apr 2013 - 11:00

Bates Motel continues to weave a web of dysfunction for Norman and Norma Bates. Here's Michael's review of Ocean View...

This review contains spoilers.

1.5 Ocean View

Welcome to the doghouse Norman. Make yourself uncomfortable.

It’s relationship crisis week in White Pine Bay, and a great opportunity to explore some of the emotional interactions that underpin the stranger goings-on in the town.

We start the episode with that staple of a young man’s development – the walk of shame. Walk of pride would be a more appropriate term, especially with the delicious grin that Highmore wears as he wanders back to the motel at eight in the morning. Enjoy it while you can, pal. It’s all downhill from here.

The scene in the jail set the tone for the rest of the episode and was set up very well indeed. The moment in which Norman looks plaintively at his mother, separated from him by the cell glass only for her to turn away was great. If they are to be considered as lovers, this was the episode that dealt with estrangement.

The tropes were all there. Norman waiting for her release, ineffectual with a cheap bunch of flowers like the kind of guy who buys a Valentine’s card on the way home from the pub. Norma looking at him like a wronged woman to her lover. Worse is her bitterness towards him. ‘You went and got laid, Norman’, she yells at him in a reproachful tone. Her concern is not that he wasn’t around when she needed him, but that he was unfaithful to her. Being thrown out of the car was inevitable. Norman is sleeping on the couch, metaphorically speaking.

Their estrangement has been brewing for a couple of episodes. Now that it’s here, it gives us a moment to consider Vera Farmiga's role. As Norma Bates, she's been given something of a poisoned chalice. It is, on one level, a plum role -she's the key to Norman's behaviour and situation, and as the bearer of the hand that killed Summers back in episode one, she's behind the season arc too. The show would fall apart without her. However, the 'overbearing and possessive mother who smothers the sanity out of her son' wanders a little too close to cliché, which can be a problem in a show that already carries the burden of adding to the myth about America's Premiere Pop Culture Serial Killer.

She's done a great job with the material so far. Her epic mood swings are somewhat overwritten, but those subtler moments between mother and son are the better ones and for the most part, they’re all hers. If the writers dialled the madness back a little, and let Farmiga and Highmore handle the oddness, it could be a great study in family horror.

Talking of family matters, the relationship between the two bothers has continued to develop. The brief scene of Norman riding Dylan’s pillion was just the right side of schmaltzy, and the slow, uncertain breaking of Norman’s smile wonderfully natural. The symbolism was a little too obvious –Norman can remain in the oppressive environment of his mother’s world, or let himself be picked up by his brother, who offers freedom and happiness. It was a little heavily done, but the joy on Norman’s face was sweet enough that it didn’t really matter.

Relationships outside of the core Bates family are almost as important and one of the strengths of the show. For this reason, I was sad to lose Ethan. His brief appearances have been great and he was shaping up to be an excellent guide to the colossal criminal enterprise on which White Pine Bay is built. Every Dante needs his Virgil and as Dylan began to explore this North Pacific underworld, his temperamental buddy made for an engaging tour guide. He died as he lived, a ball of angry contradictions, denying Dylan an advance one minute, giving him a tasty wad of cash the next. His death was nicely handled, giving the episode a much needed burst of action and demonstrating that Dylan can handle himself in a crisis. That their friendship had started to take root was evident when he took brutal revenge on the killer. If it’s any consolation to his sanity, he looked as shocked as we did.

We seem to be on a rota system for Bradley and Emma now, with them appearing in alternate episodes. This is thematically appropriate, as they represent the two sides of Norman's personality, or at least his destiny. In an inversion of the high school tropes we've known since Teen Wolf, the beautiful, popular Bradley represents normality, security and fulfilment (her dodgy dad aside), while the weird, less popular Emma is tempting the poor confused boy along the path to darkness. Given what we know of Norman's split personality (and I make no claims to psychological accuracy) this duality is right. Somewhere along the line, Norman will have to choose between Bradley and Emma, as he will between his mother and Dylan.

The moment of choosing is some way off yet, and for now Emma is happy to brush off Norman’s encounter with Bradley. How can it be serious if she hasn’t even updated her relationship status on Facebook? Fair point, Emma. It’s insight like this that helps her to locate the missing Chinese girl and give the plotline a helpful nudge. Her Sherlockian induction is brilliantly simple, ‘If I had an Asian sex slave, where would I hide her?’ Like so much else in this show, it has a dual meaning, as they now have to hide her from the malevolent Deputy Shelby. And where will they do that? The Bates Motel. Of course they will. Poor girl, talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire.

First details for FIFA 14

News17 Apr 2013 - 14:00

EA has fired the first volley of information about FIFA 14, and here it is...

FIFA 14 has been officially announced today (as if there was any chance it wasn't coming), and along with a few tasty shots of the action are a few details of the changes implemented in the new annual edition.

The information released by EA regarding the new changes to FIFA's gameplay includes some new shooting, control and ball physics implementations amongst other things.

When it comes to controlling the ball, players will make use of the new 'Sprint Dribble Turns' to turn in any direction whilst sprinting, and this will be paired with new 'Variable Dribble Touches', meaning not all players will have the same level of skill when running with the ball. This should show difference between team abilities even more, emphasising the need for a good, solid squad.

However, the most interesting new features focus on taking shots at goal, and the new 'Pure Shot' system now gives players the intelligence to change up their speed and find the best possible position and angle for a strike, including rushed and balanced shots. There's also going to be some revamped ball physics, which will affect the trajectory of the ball after its hit. This will make for much more realistic shots from all ranges, and allow more control, granting the ability to properly blast shots from point blank range, hit low- rising shots and more.

Alongside ball physics and control, the team-mate AI is being given another round of lessons, and defensive players will be much better at recognising and reacting to runs, and offensive players will have more skill when it comes to fooling and shaking off defenders in order to make room for the Pure Shot moment. You'll also be able to protect the ball with improved controls. Now moved to the left analogue stick, you can shield the ball whether you're standing perfectly still or blasting full pelt down the wing.

Off the pitch EA is revamping the career mode interface in order to make it more accessible, and will introduce the new 'Global Scouting Network'. This will allow fans to build their own global talent scouting network throughout the year, giving you more information than ever when it comes to that all-important transfer window.

FIFA's social networking elements will also be improved via the EA Sports Football Club, and changes will include a new socially-focused game mode and changes to the FIFA Ultimate Team. Skill games will get improvements, along with some new additions to the mix.

The development team are implementing many of the changes in order to make matches in FIFA play even more like the real thing.

David Rutter, FIFA's Executive Producer, stated in the press release,“FIFA 14 will play the way great football matches are contested with build up through midfield, tension throughout the match as chances are created, and incredible finishing.

“Opportunities in FIFA 14 will be rewarding and great goals will look stunning.”

FIFA 14 will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC later this year, with possible additional platforms to be announced.

NewsLouisa Mellor17 Apr 2013 - 20:45

Due to start in the UK this Friday, David S.Goyer's Da Vinci's Demons has already been granted a second season order by US network Starz...

These are the kind of tidings we like to be the bearer of. Da Vinci's Demons, the new David S. Goyer series set in fifteenth century Florence and based upon the heavily re-imagined exploits of a young Leonardo (Tom Riley), has already been green lit for a second season after airing just one episode in the US.

At over 2.14 million viewers, the season one opener (read our spoiler-free review, here) attracted Starz' highest premiere numbers to date, guaranteeing a second eight-part season order for the handsome drama.

Last month, lead Tom Riley assured us that creator David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel) had plans for seasons two, three, four and more in his cavernous geek-friendly mind, so there's no fear of getting attached to this one, and then burnt by early cancellation. Settle in and enjoy, because more is on the way.

Da Vinci's Demons starts in the UK this Friday the 19th of April at 10pm on Fox. Read our cast interviews with Tom Riley, Laura Haddock, Lara Pulver and Blake Ritson, here.

Ed Brubaker on Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America

The writer of the comic that's formed the basis of Captain America: The Winter Soldier shares his thoughts on the script...

It's always nice when authors of the source material that provide the basis for a movie are involved with the production. A recent example of this is Ed Brubaker, who wrote the the comic run that provides the basis for Captain America: The Winter Soldier was invited to the set and table readings of the script. Here's what he had to say about it all.

“…I got to go out to Marvel Studios a couple months ago and read one of the later drafts of the script. I went out to dinner with [directors Joe and Anthony Russo] and talked about the project and gave them feedback on what I liked or didn’t like or what parts didn’t work. I mean, the script I read was fucking fantastic. It was the best Marvel movie.”

He followed up that rather bold claim by discussing his reaction to the script in greater detail. “It was really strange because [the script] feels like my comic while not really telling the same story as my comic. It’s got moments here and there where I was like, ‘hey, I wrote that.’ But mostly, it’s not what people think it’s going to be. But the tone of it was so close to what [artist] Steve [Epting] and I were doing on that comic in the first few years, where it feels like an espionage story almost more than a superhero story [and] there’s tons of action in it. I can’t wait to see what they do with it.”

It certainly sounds promising. What's more, the fact that the film is shaping up to be more of a political thriller than what is perceived to be a traditional comic book movie (although such perceptions have been challenged numerous times in recent years) should certainly make Captain America: The Winter Soldier an interesting addition to the Marvel cinematic universe. Could we see HBO's American Gods premiere this year?

NewsLouisa Mellor17 Apr 2013 - 21:15

The latest on HBO's Neil Gaiman adaptation, American Gods, suggests we could see episode 1 this year, but there's a big 'if'...

Having heard him chide A Song of Ice and Fire fans for pressuring George R. R. Martin to get a wriggle on with his saga, we all know how Neil Gaiman feels about the entitlement of fandom, and quite rightly too. As we are Martin, we're lucky to have Gaiman, and will wait as long as it takes him and HBO to settle on the best possible script for long-ish gestating project, American Gods.

That said, wouldn't it be fantastic if the latest buzz about the adaptation's state of readiness is true? HBO Watch, citing Gaiman's Twitter takeover at this March's Cambridge International Student Film Festival, says that "American Gods will debut this year if Gaiman can get the pilot script done in time to HBO's satisfaction." This year. As in 2013. As in mere months from where we are currently.

Of course, there's a big "if" slap-bang in the middle of that quote, so there's little point in our getting prematurely excited. Casting, production, post, it all takes time, and lord knows, we'd much rather things weren't rushed with this one, as it's an adaptation with the potential to be very special indeed.

The moment anything official comes in, we'll let you know.

New full length trailer for The Lone Ranger

Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer star in Gore Verbinski's big screen take on The Lone Ranger. Here's the new trailer...

With summer blockbuster season effectively underway thanks to the release of Tom Cruise sci-fi vehicle, Oblivion, it seems that we've had a sudden surge in the number of trailers, posters and whatnot that studio marketing departments are pumping out to capitalise on it.

The latest? That'd be a new trailer for The Lone Ranger, which remains arguably the biggest gamble of the summer. Costing well over $200m to make, the movie reunites Johnny Depp and director Gore Verbinski, with Armie Hammer starring in the title role.

That huge price tag, in the film's favour, as meant that we get practical on-screen effects and stunts, and this latest trailer for the movie does little to dampen the action quotient of the project.

It's still a bit of a tough sell this one, but see if this trailer woos you in any way. The movie is due out in the US in July, and we don't get it in the UK until early August.

First trailer: R.I.P.D., with Ryan Reynolds & Jeff Bridges

Meet the Rest In Peace Department in the first trailer for R.I.P.D., from RED director Robert Schwentke

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Rest In Peace Department, specifically two of its members, played by Jeff Bridges (with fine facial hair) and Ryan Reynolds. The R.I.P.D. (also the name of the movie) has the job of protecting the living from the many souls who refuse to move on once they've died. And before you can say Men In Black, the pair discover a plot that might just bring the whole world to an end. Naturally enough, it's their job to stop it.

Clearly, the gold in R.I.P.D. might just lie in the pairing of Bridges and Reynolds, and they lead a cast that also includes Kevin Bacon, Mary-Louise Parker and Robert Knepper. The film, which arrives this summer, has been directed by Robert Schwentke, who helmed the original RED, as well as Flightplan and The Time Traveller's Wife.

And we've got a first trailer for the movie here. The film is set to arrive in cinemas this July (although not until August 30th in the UK. Bah), and see what you make of it thus far...

Disney confirms one Star Wars film a year from 2015

NewsSimon Brew18 Apr 2013 - 06:29

It's definite: as well as a Star Wars trilogy, we're getting new standalone films. And we're getting one Star Wars film a year...

Depending on your outlook for such things, what we're about to tell you will either be news to bring a rather sizeable smile to your chops, or it'll leave you feeling as if Disney is risking significant damage to its new, $4bn galactic goose.

At the CinemaCon event taking place in the US, Disney's head honcho Alan Horn firstly announced that Star Wars: Episode VII would indeed be heading to cinema screens in the summer of 2015. There had been some talk that wouldn't be the case, after JJ Abrams took on the job, but it looks as if the film is locked for two years' time. And it will definitely be a summer release.

However, and here comes the contentious bit, Horn then also revealed that the plan at the moment is to have one Star Wars film in cinemas every year from 2015 onwards. At least until 2020 anyway, when the new trilogy is concluded.

It's been little secret that, on top of Star Wars Episodes VII, VIII and IX, that Disney has been working on standalone movies involving some of the characters. And, to be fair, videogames, books and comics have done a substantive job of exploring the stories we don't see in the films. So there's certainly a wealth of material to draw on. Those standalone films will now slot in alternate years between the releases of the new trilogy, as Disney looks to get a fairly quick return on its Lucasfilm investment.

Even the most devoted Star Wars fan, we suspect, has a slight alarm bell ringing at the thought of a Star Wars film every year. It's an ambitious ask, and inevitably questions will be raised about making sure standards are kept up. We'll keep you posted. And surely that full Star Wars: Episode VII announcement can't be too far away now...

21 Jump Street

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are returning in 21 Jump Street 2, which will be in cinemas next year...

Comfortably one of the best mainstream comedies of recent times has been 21 Jump Street. It's a film that many had written off in advance (we weren't over-enamoured with the idea at first ourselves, in truth), with the feeling being that this was just another remake.

Said feeling quickly dissipated when we all got to see the film, though. 21 Jump Street was and is an absolute hoot, and as we've discovered since, it has eminent rewatch value too.

The first film left things in place for a sequel, although it hadn't been officially confirmed. Well, until now at least. Sony has now confirmed that 21 Jump Street 2 is on its release schedule for 2014. That means that production should kick off this year.

Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall are working on the screenplay for the movie, which Hill and Channing Tatum will star in again. The question mark though is over the involvement of directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord. The pair are deep at work on the upcoming LEGO movie. That's scheduled for release next February, so things may yet be a little tight there.

Hopefully, they can squeeze the movie in, as without doubt, they are major, major reasons why the first film was as good as it was. We'll keep you posted as we hear more...

The Croods has hit big worldwide. So much so that DreamWorks has just greenlit The Croods 2...

Earlier in the week, we ran an interview with Rise Of The Guardians director Peter Ramsey, who looked back on the past four or five months after the release of the film. He's candidly discussed the experience of having the film comparably underperform at the box office, and it's a real pity we'll never get to see Rise Of The Guardians 2 on the big screen.

Guardians, for our money, was a lot more interesting and bold that the DreamWorks feature that's followed, The Croods. And while The Croods isn't bad, it just feels as though there's a lot less to it. So guess which one has turned out to be the big hit?

So much so, in fact, that DreamWorks Animation has confirmed that work has begun on The Croods 2. The film is going to bring back writer/directors Chris Sanders and Kirk De Micco, and given that Sanders is one of our favourite working directors of animation, there's every chance that the next movie will be a strong one. Plus, we'll get another Alan Silvestri score, we hope.

The Croods 2 won't be with us until 2016 or 2017 we wouldn't imagine, and we'll keep you posted on it.
