Watch the trailer for The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Skyward Sword’s out today, so to mark the occasion, here’s the marvellous full-length trailer…

The Wii’s processing power may be decidedly diminutive compared to every other console of this generation, so it’s quite remarkable just how beautiful and expansive Skyward Sword looks. The Zelda games have always pushed whatever platform they’ve been released on to their limits, and Nintendo have clearly wrung every bit of power from the Wii to deliver the most handsome-looking game in the series so far.

The trailer below, as well as showcasing Skyward Sword’s graphics and all-new orchestral sound, also provides a glimpse of the varied and imaginative use Nintendo have made of the Wii Remote Plus, with Link guided along rickety bridges on tiptoes, through clouds on the back of a giant bird, on water via speedboats, and along rails in mine carts, Indiana Jones style.

One thing the trailer can’t illustrate is just how fluent the reworked sword fighting sequences are; where Twilight Princess’ combat sequences were less engaging exercises in remote waggling, Skyward Sword’s fighting is fast-moving, intuitive and most of all fun. But then again, if you’re one of the innumerable people who’ve already queued up for a copy of the game, you may be aware of this already…
