The search is currently on for the person to direct the 24th James Bond adventure, now that Skyfall helmer Sam Mendes has formally passed on the job. Rupert Wyatt remains our choice, given that he's both brilliant and available, and with production due to start before the year is out, we'd expect an announcement in the next couple of months.
However, Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, talking to Getty, have confirmed that the door isn't shut on Sam Mendes. "We will get him back", said Broccoli. "Maybe not for the next one... but we will get him back again".
Wilson went on to add that "we are working on him", and that "we hope that maybe he will have gotten inspired to come back".
It sounded more a case of scheduling that ruled Sam Mendes out of Bond 24, not least the incoming musical of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, which he's directed. It might yet be worth putting a cheeky fiver on Mendes to helm Bond 25...
