The Phantom Pain has been causing the gaming community to theorise ever since its first reveal on the Spike TV awards in 2012. Coming out of nowhere, apparently developed by the unknown Moby Dick Studios, headed by Joakim Mogren, the game is a strange one.
The original trailer featured a bandaged man running through a hospital, before coming under attack. The man, who looked to have an artificial arm, is thought by many to be Solid Snake, and it didn't take long for fans to work out that Moby Dick's CEO's first name is an anagram for Kojima.
Now, a new trailer has appeared. The clip, which is accompanied by morse code, also contains a flash of text that mentions a Project Omega, and treatment for combat related, psychological damage. It also clearly mentions a VR Program called Phantom_Pain.MME, and mentions that Moby Dick Studios is the contractor of the project.
A YouTube user (Aesop's Episoden) has also decoded the morse code. According to the translation, the code reads 'Generating image hold. Scenario loading hold. Activate phantom pain dot meme hold. Error error error error.'
These clues, as well as similarities to Metal Gear Zeroes, such as location names and familiar logos are leading people to believe that Phantom Pain is, in fact, Metal Gear Solid V. Of course, Hideo Kojima likes to play mind games, and is fond of the cloak and dagger approach to marketing, so it's certainly a good possibility.
