Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman has been chatting about the upcoming Platinum Dunes Ninja Turtles movie recently, a project that has been greeted with a fair amount of scepticism ever since it was announced that Michael Bay was producing the film. From a leaked script through to debates of alien turtles, the fan reaction has not been overwhelmingly positive thus far.
In his defence, Michael Bay has handled such concerns really quite well, frequently responding to them with good humour. And new, Kevin Eastman has injected some positivity into things. “From everything that I've seen in the script and the development and everything they've asked for my input on specifically, it's gonna be an awesome, familiar, solid Turtles movie", he said. "It'll have everything the fans want and then some”.
He added that "It's all based solidly on the Turtles foundation, but they've hit the reset button. They've taken it back to the first episode, with the Turtles' first time above ground after many years training with Master Splinter. They're making a Turtles origin that is firmly rooted in Turtles history, but with a slight tweak here and a slight tweak there".
The Ninja Turtles movie will be directed by Jonathan Liebsman and is set for release on May 16th 2014.
