After the surprisingly strong reboot of the Planet Of The Apes franchise, with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, 20th Century Fox was understandably keen to move ahead with another movie. Hence, it announced Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, for release in the summer of 2014.
It’s not been the easiest of roads thus far though. Rise director Rupert Wyatt has passed on the chance to direct Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, with the tight schedule reportedly the main area of contention. Fox subsequently gave the job to Matt Reeves, of Cloverfield and Let Me In fame.
A couple of new details about the new film have now surfaced, too. Firstly, there’s a bit of casting, with the news that Zero Dark Thirty’s Jason Clarke has apparently been offered the lead in the new film. The identity of his exact role is unclear, but The Hollywood Reporter says that he’s currently the top choice.
Why no James Franco? Well, it seems as though Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is going to be set some 15 years after the last movie, with Mark Bomback penning the screenplay. Production is due to start in the next month or two, in order to hit that May 23rd 2014 release slot.
It all sounds interesting, and after the strength of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, we’re keen to see just what all concerned have up their sleeves with Dawn…
