Following the hiring of James Gunn as director and Chris Pratt in the lead, Guardians of the Galaxy is quickly shaping up to be one of the more interesting films in Marvel's slate of upcoming projects. The project has also seen the likes of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler linked to key roles, which I seem to be more enthusiastic about than most. Both actors have delivered their fair share of lazy performances, but they've also shown that they can shine when working outside of their comfort zone and challenged, which they surely would be here should they eventually be cast.
Anyway, the executive producer of the film, Victoria Alonso, has been chatting about the project and the challenges faced with bringing some of the more eccentric elements of the source to the screen. “You can't do any motion capture with a raccoon, they won't let you put the suit on!", she told Cinema Blend. "But we will do rotomation, probably, for some of the behaviour. Rocket will have his own personality, of course.”
She continues by addressing some of their other motion capture difficulties:
“Clearly we can't do mo-cap on a tree, but we definitely will have performers to emulate what James Gunn will lead to be the behaviour and the performance. He's very clear on where he wants to take the characters.”
Guardians of the Galaxy is set for release on the August 1st 2014 and whilst we all await the inevitable casting of Gunn favourites Nathan Fillion and Michael Rooker, this might be an opportune moment to check out Gunn's earlier movies, Slither and Super. Both are divisive, certainly. But you might just love them...
