Rockstar may return to the GTA: San Andreas blueprint in future, and wants to include multiple cities…

Most of Rockstar’s massively popular Grand Theft Auto series have taken place in a fictionalised incarnation of a real world City. New York was transformed into Liberty City, Los Angeles became Los Santos and Miami became Vice City. In most of the 3D games, however, each has focused on a single city, except the state-sized San Andreas.

The upcoming GTA V is, as we all know, set to take place in Los Santos, but will only include the one city, surrounded by a large area, so sadly, there’ll be no travelling to Las Vegas-a-like Las Venturas to get in some poker. This may have disappointed some, despite claims that GTA V will have the largest ever GTA map.

If you’d like a GTA outing that takes in more than one area, though, you may be in luck in the future. In an interview with Digital Trends, series producer, Leslie Benzies commented on the possibility of a future GTA featuring multiple cities.

“Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favourite areas, and in that context re-imagining Vice City would be very interesting.” He said, when asked if there was a chance of a return to Vice City.

This is clearly possible, as San Andreas managed it on last generation consoles, and although the games are much more complex now, with far more impressive worlds and visuals, it’s surely inevitable that we’ll be driving between cities listening to a typically classy GTA selection of songs.

GTA V will be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Spring 2013.
