Most of the news surrounding James Cameron's planned follow-ups to Avatar this year has surrounded whether there will be an Avatar 4 to go with the planned Avatar 2 and 3. If we've got this right, it's two rather than three sequels that are on James Cameron's immediate agenda, though, even if there had been little sign of production starting on them.
Well, now we've got some inkling of times.
At the premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Cameron told The West Australian that production is set to begin in 2013. "I want to get the scripts nailed down", he said. "I don't want to be writing the movie in post-production". He admitted that's what happened to an extent with the first Avatar.
Therefore, the plan is to have the scripts to the new Avatar movies sorted and in place by February. Filming is then set to commence towards the end of 2013. The first of the sequels is currently set for a 2015 release date.
