Did you know Darth Vader had a brother? Nor did George Lucas...

Expect Star Wars spin-offs as well as sequels on the big screen, it seems. Plus, Mark Hamill gives a quick update on his involvement.

It was only a week or so ago that news broke about the involvement of writers Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg in the new trilogy of Star Wars movies. We already know that Michael Arndt is writing Star Wars Episode VII, and the assumption was that Kasdan and Kinberg were thus taking on Episode VIII and Episode IX. As it turns out, that may not be the case.

Instead, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that the screenplays Kasdan and Kinberg are working on are potentially spin-off movies, and not necessarily part of an unfolding new trilogy. This ties into the approach that Marvel takes with its movies, of course, where individual films put individual characters at the centre of them. Disney has ambitious plans to bring a new Star Wars film to the big screen every other year, and a series of direct sequels is not necessarily the way it is taking things.

Also in Star Wars news, Mark Hamill has given a new interview where he's revealed that he's still unsure whether he'll be reprising the role of Luke Skywalker in Episode VII. "Until I know more about what they have in mind, I think it's better to let Lucasfilm make the announcements", he told E! Online.

Star Wars Episode VII is set for release in 2015.
