Want to see what the massive robots and monsters look like in Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim? Of course you do...

"San Francisco has now become a warzone. If the jets can't bring down this massive creature, I don't know what's going to be left of this city."

The fog of secrecy began to part just a little this week, as a rather coy 'emergency alert system'viral video appeared online to promote Guillermo del Toro's forthcoming Pacific Rim.

A new, minute-long sort-of teaser trailer has now arrived, showcasing the film's 300-metre-tall Kaiju creatures, which leave jet fighters looking like buzzing flies in their wake as they stride across America's West Coast. Although filtered through a blurry haze of faux interference, it's just possible to make out the grey outline of something hulking and monster-shaped in the chaos. And isn't that a Kaiju corpse slumped on the deck of an aircraft carrier?

As an extra bonus, Wired have also published a blueprint of a Jaeger - one of the robots earthlings will build to combat the giant monster menace in the film. Apparently, it's called Gipsy Danger, which sounds more like the name of a racehorse to us. Maybe the humans raced the giant robots at posh events before the monsters attacked, and the humans cannily decided to press the machines into service as weapons. Or maybe not.

We're obviously at the start of Pacific Rim's full-on marketing assault. The first full trailer will debut in two weeks (it'll appear in front of Peter Jackson's modest fantasy drama, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) while the film proper will be released on the 12th July 2013. We're quite excited about this.
