Following an iOS and Android remake of Dizzy: Prince Of The Yolkfolk last year, original creators the Oliver Twins have assembled a team at Blitz Games Studios to begin work on Dizzy Returns, the ninth full game in the adventure game series, which began with Dizzy: The Ultimate Cartoon Adventure in 1987. They’re hoping to release the game towards the end of 2013, for iOS and PC.
The only trouble is, a full-on 21st century Dizzy game needs a full-on 21st century budget, and that’s where you come in; Philip and Andrew Oliver have launched their own Kickstarter and are looking for a hefty £350,000 to develop the game. And, as is the nature of Kickstarter, they’ve only got until December 21st to do it.
If you’ve played any of the Dizzy series in the past, we probably don’t need to say any more; chances are you’ve clicked the link and pledged already. The Olivers have promised to show what has become of the land of the Yolkfolk in the decades since 1992’s Crystal Kingdom Dizzy, with a game that will ‘build on established Dizzy lore, including all the references Dizzy fans are looking for, whilst giving everyone something new to discover and explore.’ And let’s face it, who among us doesn’t want to know what Pogie the Fluffle is up to nowadays?
If you’ve never touched a Dizzy game, this is a project that’s well worth your time; the series enchanted a generation with their colourful characters, whimsical plots and compelling puzzles. If you’ve got an iPad you could do a lot worse than pick up Prince Of The Yolkfolk (our review is here) to give yourself a small taster of what the series is all about. And with Blitz having titles for studios such as Dreamworks and Disney under their belt, a full-blooded 3D relaunch could be something very special indeed.
