Independence Day 3D won't be heading to cinemas. Is this a sign, too, that the Independence Day sequels are in trouble?

Well here’s a turn up. Given that 3D rereleases have generally been quite successful in 2012, few were shocked when it was revealed that 20th Century Fox was looking to put a 3D version of Independence Day in cinemas in 2013.

However, it turns out that the planned and previously announced 3D release has now been cancelled.

Notwithstanding the fact that it would have been good to see Independence Day and its inherent daftness back on the big screen, we can’t help but speculate what was behind the decision to pull the plug. The film had been set for release on July 3rd 2013, and presumably would have paved the way for the long-mooted pair of sequels, ID Forever Part I and ID Forever Part II. Are those films still on the agenda now, we wonder?

There’s still no shortage of 3D rereleases arriving next year, mind. Jurassic Park 3D is probably the highest profile of the lot, but there’s also a pair of Star Wars films, Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, towards the end of the year. We know how much you're looking forward to them.
