Appreciating that there's no shortage of Star Wars Episode 7 rumours doing the rounds at the moment, we're having to limit ourselves, if it's all the same with you, to ones that have some element of substance to them.
And this latest story falls into that category.
It concerns an answer to the question as to just who is likely to be writing the upcoming Star Wars Episode 7. And the identity of one of the scribes is looking like Michael Arndt.
Arndt's thus far contributed to screenplays such as Toy Story 3 and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and what seems to be edging him towards the Star Wars job is a 40-50 page treatment that he submitted. It was a treatment he's been working on for some time, long before the official announcement that Disney was buying Lucasfilm and embarking on a new Star Wars movie. It appears to have impressed the right people.
Vulture broke the story, and its sources also suggest that Disney is looking to bring back Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo for Episode 7. Various stories have circulated over the past week about how Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher would be interested in returning to play the older versions of characters they've not played on screen for nearly 30 years.
Disney and producer Kathleen Kennedy are confirming nothing at this stage, but tapping into the Pixar talent pool makes some sense. Arguably, Revenge Of The Sith was an animated movie in its own right anyway, so a screenwriter who has dealt with both successful live action films (Arndt won an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine) as well as animation might make some sense.
We suspect that Arndt, if he's confirmed in the job, wouldn't be the only scribe to work on the project. We'll keep you posted as we find out more...
