Sooner or later, Ryan Reynolds will land the role that'll make him a huge movie star (Safe House is as close as he's come in recent times). It should have been Green Lantern, but that didn't go quite to plan. It might have been The Change-Up, but that didn't work out too well either. And it may well be his upcoming project, R.I.P.D., due out next year.
But might it be Highlander? Reynolds was strongly linked with taking on the role of Connor MacLeod in the planned Highlander reboot a few weeks ago, but Lionsgate has now gone one stage further and officially cast him in the role.
This new version is being directed by 28 Days Later helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and we'd expect the rest of the casting to fall into place in the coming weeks. We'd hope that there's a cameo for Christopher Lambert in there somewhere, too.
With each big project that Reynolds commits to, it always seems to us that it's making the planned Deadpool spin-off movie less and less likely. But we like Ryan Reynolds a lot, and hopefully, this new Highlander will work out better for him.
