Although it can be very difficult for new licenses to get a firm hold on the gaming market these days, with the risk of failure perhaps being higher than ever, Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma has apparently weathered that particular storm.
The new open-world RPG is set to become a “major franchise” according to a press release from Capcom. The game, which is a very solid RPG, has sold over one million units, solidifying it as a big success for the publisher. It set records in Japan for sales of a new IP, and is the 55th game from Capcom to break the one million sales mark.
This is a very good thing, and the game certainly deserves more instalments. I noted in my review that, although a very good and enjoyable title, the game is a little generic, and had a few minor issues, and I felt it was unlikely to get a second chance. I’m certainly glad to be proven wrong here, and here’s hoping that Dragon’s Dogma grows into the great RPG series is has the potential to become.
