The retooled Devil May Cry has been pushed back, but Dante is heading to an extra platform…

The polarising reboot of Devil May Cry was slated for a late 2012 release, but this has now taken a turn for the worse, as Capcom has announced the game will now ship in 2013. The current release date is earmarked for January 15 2013 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for both North America and Europe. However, Capcom has also revealed that a PC port of the game is in the works, and this will release later on in 2013.

A lot of 2012’s games have been delayed, and pushed into the following year, and it’s almost a certainty that more will follow. The fact that DmC is getting a PC release will please some gamers, but I can’t help but think the decision to port the traditionally console-centric title to the PC is a little odd.

Whilst I certainly wouldn’t want to deprive PC games of decent titles, DmC simply isn’t the kind of game most PC owners will want to play, and I highly doubt that the game will shift high numbers on the platform. Surely concentrating on the console version and hitting the original release date would benefit the title more, putting it in the Christmas sweet spot.

We’ll have to see if the decision pays off next year, and if Dante’s new image can appease the haters.
