We like the fact that Guillermo del Toro is getting to make films again, and given that two major projects fell through for him (The Hobbit, At The Mountains Of Madness), it’s perhaps unsurprising that he’s looking to follow up next summer’s Pacific Rim really quite quickly.
It was revealed a week or two back that he was planning to make a movie of Pinocchio, and now one or two further details have come through. Backed by The Henson Company, del Toro’s Pinocchio will be a stop motion animated project. And, after originally considering executive producing duties, del Toro has now revealed that he’s going to be co-directing the movie. Mark Gustafson is co-directing with him.
Furthermore, on the casting front, Daniel Radcliffe is believed to be on the radar for the project. According to a piece over at The Hollywood Reporter, it sounds as though Radcliffe is actively chasing a voice role, too. Furthermore, del Toro has expressed interest in casting Christopher Walken, but has also pointed out that nobody has signed on the dotted line yet.
We’re keen to see this one, and the film is set to be released in 2014. We’ll keep you posted on it.
